We’ve withdrawn endota Mineral Protect SPF50 Sunscreen from sale in New zealand

We know recent updates about sunscreen testing have caused uncertainty and concern. We hear and share those concerns.

When questions were raised about the accuracy of testing to determine SPF ratings, we paused sales of endota Mineral Protect SPF50 Sunscreen and have held detailed discussions with the manufacturer of the sunscreen’s base formula and the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Many sunscreens, including nearly 20 identified by the TGA, use a common base formula, to which brands add additional ingredients (like fragrances and colour tints), which the TGA says can cause variations in the product and its SPF rating.

Our independent laboratory testing, performed to international standards (ISO 24444), on the finished formula of Mineral Protect SPF50 Sunscreen indicated an SPF value of 52 under test conditions. However, given the complexity, variability and questions over Australian SPF testing standards, we have decided to cease supply of Mineral Protect SPF50. We want you to have full confidence in all endota’s products.

If you have purchased a Mineral Protect Sunscreen SPF50 and would like a refund, please email online@endota.co.nz.

Are other endota sunscreens affected?

This decision applies only to Mineral Protect SPF50 Sunscreen. We have placed a temporary hold on the sale of  Natural Clear Zinc SPF50+ while we undertake additional independent re-testing of the formulations. Although Natural Clear Zinc uses a different formulation, we chose to pause sales as a proactive measure while further testing is completed. We’ll share updates as soon as results are available.

Can I still use the Mineral Protect SPF50 Sunscreen

The current TGA recommendation is to not use the product and recommends seeking an alternative sunscreen.
