Beautiful, healthy skin will never go out of style. A glowing complexion means you can wear less makeup – or ditch it all together for a fresh-faced dewy look. We’ve compiled five of our favourite tips to create the radiant skin of your dreams.
Exfoliate the right way.
Cell turnover slows as we age, and dead skin cells accumulate on the skin’s surface, creating dullness and uneven texture. Exfoliation helps us to remove the build-up, revealing healthy, plump new skin cells underneath – and it also increases the absorption of treatment serums and moisturisers.
A word of caution: not all exfoliants are created equal. At worst, a poorly formulated exfoliant can cause irritating micro-tears, damaging the skin and creating inflammation. Gentle is key here. Slough off the dullness with a quality exfoliant at least once a week.
Quick tip: Before you exfoliate, always remove your makeup and cleanse your skin thoroughly. Keep your exfoliant in the shower, so you remember to use it.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.Â
Dehydrated skin can look flat and lacklustre. The quick fix? Post-exfoliation, lather on a skin-quenching hyaluronic-acid serum. Finish with a generous spritz of hydrating mist – also ideal for refreshing your skin and locking in moisture throughout the day.
Call in the professionals.
Need a little extra skin TLC? Invest in a highly-effective professional treatment to exfoliate and up the glow factor.
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that gently blasts away surface skin cells. Your skin will look brighter and fresher immediately after treatment, and with regular microdermabrasion, you can expect to see an improvement in skin texture.
Gentle facial peels are also an excellent option if you need a more intense exfoliation. During a peel, your therapist will apply glycolic, lactic, or salicylic acid to dissolve away the dead, dry surface layers of your skin. While acids may sound scary, gentle peels are anything but, and you can expect instant results. Maintain your baby-smooth skin with a leave-on exfoliant at home.
Glow on the go.
Illuminating skincare and makeup products are a quick, easy way to create glowing skin. Creamy formulas are more forgiving and natural-looking than highlighting powders – and can be applied in a flash. Wear your highlight alongside foundation and other makeup, or opt for a fresh face with SPF followed by a dab of glow.
Application tip: pat a highlighting balm on the cheekbones, browbone, and Cupid’s bow for subtle radiance.
Take your (topical) vitamins.Â
Active ingredients like Vitamin A, B, and C can transform your skin. Consider adding a potent serum or two into your daily regime, and don’t forget the most essential skin saviour of them all: sunscreen.
Vitamin AÂ (Retinol): An anti-ageing powerhouse. Smooths skin texture, firms, reduces fine lines, increases collagen production, and minimises pores.
Vitamin BÂ (Niacinamide): Reduces pore size, brightens, evens skin tone and texture, reduces fine lines.
Vitamin C: Brightening, reduces pigmentation, offers antioxidant protection, improves skin texture, and boosts collagen production.
